A Sunday roast dinner at The BarnYard restaurant in Kent

Sunday Lunch at The BarnYard

Sundays in the Orchards

A proper Sunday roast,
out in the Kent countryside

The BarnYard has been family-run since 1984, and Sunday is still the day we build the week around. Roasts are served from 12:00pm to 3:30pm in our restaurant in the orchards near Upchurch, an easy drive from Rainham, Sittingbourne and the Medway towns. Everything is cooked fresh on site, from the thyme roast potatoes to the Yorkshire puddings.

Irish beef, half a roast chicken, cola and maple baked gammon, roast pork with proper crackling and apple sauce, or a butternut, kale and apricot roast. Every one comes with crispy thyme roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding and seasonal vegetables. Then there is the good bit: a dish of golden cauliflower cheese, a couple of pigs in blankets, an extra Yorkshire, truffle and parmesan fries or beer battered onion rings, all there to be added to the middle of the table. Bring everyone, and there is a sharing platter for two or four with all three roasts on it.

Where You'll Eat

Lunch with
an orchard view

The restaurant sits in 150 acres of orchards at the end of Oak Lane, one quiet turn off the road near Upchurch. Inside, The Rooster is our cosy main dining room under the original oak beams. When the sun is out, tables go outside into the Courtyard, a sheltered sun-trap framed by our original barns, with the festoon strings overhead and the orchards beyond.

It is all family-run, and the same kitchen team who cater every wedding here cook your Sunday roast too. Two large free car parks sit beside the restaurant, so the walk from car to table is a short one.

Bring the Whole Family

Dogs welcome,
tails and all

We're a proper dog-friendly bunch (and we've welcomed the odd hamster too). The Courtyard is theirs to enjoy, the outdoor patio just in front of The Rooster, there are fresh water bowls at every door, and there's always a treat or two on hand. Pull up a table, four legs very much included.
